A deeply held belief in my family is that politics in our nation is good and that many
politicians are simple trying to do right by their constituents. Oh gosh this one is gonna get
political. Why can’t I just stick to sports?
My dad was a lawyer. Graduated from University of Kentucky Law School and passed
the BAR exam on his 1st attempt. (He LOVES to mention that). He practiced law for several
years, then moved to California work for Susan Davis as her campaign advisor and advisor once
she won her re-election as a congressman. He had a 1st hand experience of working with a
congressman to see our democracy at work.
These idea that our government is fair and comprehensive is a strong belief in my
household. However, as the recent election was filled with turmoil and distrust, I found myself
having doubts of the greatness of this democracy. How can such a great democracy lead to such
an ugly election. Filled with personal attacks and the ideas of corrupted politicians. Was my own
father a corrupted politician. I wasn’t sure what to make of it.
My dad wasn’t corrupted, he is just a man trying to make this nation and this city better. I
knew deep down that’s all these two presidential candidates wanted too. To make this nation
better. My willingness to challenge what was previously believed made it possible for me to see
each side. I’m not going to say our nation is perfect, which I know it isn’t. But I’m now sure the
majority of our government local, state, and federal level, is filled with people like my father,
who wish to see the lives of American’s continue to improve.
