Assignment Five: Elizabeth Piper

You usually don't find me watching TV. As often as I can you will find me watching a nightly game of Jeopardy. Other than that I do not watch much TV. I think it is because I am often busy doing something else around the house or I am just simply not at home. I would much rather listen to music than watch TV.

I think TV could possibly be a good source of entertainment for some but I find most of the shows especially the reality shows to be inane and a waste of time. I'm sure people have something better to do than watch other people make bad decisions and start drama. I do not find that entertaining in the slightest. However, the news and documentaries of historical shows are great. I feel that TV is absolutely necessary so people can see the news and they can stay informed on current events. I also believe it is a good educational tool in some cases. Even though, there are many advertisements on TV I think that they are necessary so the general population knows what products are out there and it is an effective way of reaching the masses.

I think that there being so much emphasis on the Emmy's compared to the Nobel Prizes are bad. However, I don't think that is ever going to change. Frankly, people just do not care about the next new science concept they want to see people in fancy clothes living the life of luxury. Although that is terrible it is the truth. In today's world it is all about pop culture and celebrities living the lavish lifestyle. In some way I think that many people want to embody these celebrities and live as luxurious as they do. They aspire to this and that's why the Emmy's are so popular. It gives everyone a taste and a glimpse into the "high life".
