Assignment 10: Megan Meadors
Public speaking is terrifying. Now, I know what you might be thinking, and the answer is yes. I am a theater kid. But I am also terrified of getting in front of people and talking. How can that work? Easy. When you’re acting in a play you can be someone else, but for public speaking it’s a different story. You’re simply yourself. There’s nowhere to hide and that’s absolutely terrifying. I mean, pretty much everyone I know is scared of public speaking, at least a little bit. It’s easier with practice to speak in front of people, but how often would you want to practice a speech or a presentation? Even if you go over it 100 times there’s still like 30 people in each class who you have to worry about messing up in front of. You can tell me that this is a “safe space” all you want, but nothing will keep the judgement from being there. You can tell me all you want that practicing will make that easier, but looking at yourself in the mirror is NOT the same thing.
