Assignment Ten: Elizabeth Piper

It was a dark winter evening, I just rose from my bed. A chill ran down my spine so I slipped on my fuzzy boots. Hardly any sleep was coming my way that night, and I decided to go get a drink. My fuzzy boots snuck across the floor into the kitchen. I made myself a cup of hot chocolate to warm me up. Then I heard a creak, randomly in the dead of the night. It sounded like it came from downstairs. Being that I couldn’t sleep, I felt I should investigate. But something didn’t feel quite right. I hesitantly made my way to the stairs to journey to where I thought I heard the sound. Then I took a big gulp of my hot chocolate and set it down, hoping it wouldn’t be my last. Step by step I made my way down the stairs, as carefully as I could. WOOF. It was just my dog Pixie, who had decided to get her toy from downstairs. I was then going to go say hello. But then, it felt like the whole world moved. My heart skipped a beat and I lost my breath. My entire life flashed before my very eyes. I just encountered the most horrid thing in the world.
    I missed a step.
