Assignment 14: Eli Wrinn

Thanksgiving break falls at a time of the year when I need a break. The three days off plus a weekend are magical and there is no place I would rather spend days off than in my recliner in the living room. Also I have a rather small close family my age with my brother and two cousins who I have never met. My grandparents on one side live in a small house all the way in Connecticut and my other grandma has traveled to Florida by then. A three day trip that far isn't worth it so we usually stay in Lexington. We have no family in tow, of course, and a three-person Thanksgiving with just my mom, my brother, and I is kind of depressing so we go to a friend's house. My mom is very much of an academic, hip, artsy person and so are her friends. This means, naturally, that their food has to be artsy as well, which means I don't enjoy it as much as normal Thanksgiving food. Usually, the only things I can rely on are the mashed potatoes and the Turkey itself. They even provide gravy with an odd variation on it. I realize now that I sound kind of whiny, so I must clarify that the mashed potatoes and turkey are really good. Just kidding, I realize that there is nothing like being able to share a great meal with friends and family that truly love and appreciate you which Thanksgiving specializes in providing.
