Assignment 3--Eli Wrinn
As any child grows older, their perspective on the world changes through different experiences and lessons learned as they increase. The same has applied to my growth and education as an individual, however, a few specific events in my lifetime can be pointed to as especially important to this process. The first came when I was eight years old. When I was younger and my voice was unbroken, I sang soprano in my church choir. One year, I traveled with my mom, who was in the choir as well, to Ely England to sing in a 1000 year old cathedral for a week's worth of church services. Additionally, the Saturday we had off, we drove to the near Cambridge, where I even punted down the river Cam. Of course, when anyone goes to another country, they experience culture shock in seeing the differences between there and their homeland. I expected this going into the trip except, I was actually struck by the great similarity between England and the United States. It made me realize how much of our country's culture really is derived from England's. The other major experience in cultivating my global perspective was the taking of AP World History last year. Already a subject I was greatly interested in, World History captivated me and put most things I take for granted about my current life for granted in perspective. I worked hard throughout the course and scored a personal best 4 on the AP exam.
