A concept that I have grown to reject in my later teens is that of beauty standards teenage girls are held to. Girls are expected to be pretty above anything else, before their personality or intelligence.
At the start of high school, I was dressing and acting like how I thought a teenage girl should instead of making decisions because it was what I truly wanted. As I have gotten early I have began to adopt an attitude of doing more things for me and caring less about what others think. Examples of this are me not wearing makeup because I find it uncomfortable and prefer more natural beauty (not discounting those who enjoy makeup- right on!) I have also found myself to dress more comfortably and wear items of clothing that are for my enjoyment rather than for the purpose of looking pretty to others. These changes I have made to my outlook on life have benefited my overall happiness.
