Assignment 4- Andrew Rogers
It is the summer of 2014. Height of the World Cup. As a sports fan I was thrilled, because its the greatest sports tournament second only to maybe the Olympics. However,...... my family thought differently. They questioned why I wanted to watch it, citing, "You don't even like soccer." I watched anyway with my family becoming somewhat interested. But the world cup ended, and soccer faded once again back into the background. However I began to watch Premier League Soccer, found a team that I chose to support, Liverpool, and my obsession with the beautiful game began. I thought to myself, "I have long suffered the oppression of the American football culture in the south! It is my duty as a soccer fan to change the beliefs held by my family and my community!" And so I began. I explained rules to friends and family, I bought jerseys and watched games, all the while trying to advocate for the game. Slowly things have changed and I have been able to motivate my family towards the light. As next summer's World Cup approaches I will see how fruitful my attempts have be. Wish me luck.
