In my opinion, TV does provide a good form of entertainment, as it's one of the "big three" forms of entertainment. Those three being TV, movies, and the internet.
I only watch television for laughs. Crude humor, slapstick comedy, and funny reactions are some of the only reasons I watch TV. I do indulge in the occasional drama, more recently I re-watched Breaking Bad. But, shows like American Dad, Archer, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will always be some of my favorite shows ever, simply because of the slapstick comedy and life-lessons that come out of these characters.
That's right, I said life lessons. During most episodes of say American Dad, the writers try to draw in some sort of theme from the ridiculous plot. Take for example the Christmas special from 2012(?). In it, Stan somehow manages to piss Santa Claus off, and him and his family must take up arms to defend Stan, as Santa's elves pursue. The idea of unity as a family is explored throughout the episode, as most of it takes place with the family together instead of in their groups that they're in in most of the episodes.
