Assignment 3: Megan Meadors

Activities I’ve Been Involved In:

  • Girl Scouts (Troop, Camp, TLC)
    • I’ve been a Girl Scout since I was six years old. I’ve sold thousands of boxes of cookies, gone to camp for 10 years, worked at camp for 2 years, and joined the Girl Scout Teen Leadership Council. Through Girl Scouts, I’ve learned about money management, public speaking, event planning, teamwork, leadership, and much more. This has allowed me to work with many people who I wouldn’t have otherwise gotten to know. It’s also allowed me to see how leadership roles for older Girl Scouts can influence younger Scouts, and that has been cool for me to see.
  • Voice Lessons
    • I have been taking music lessons at the Central Music Academy for 8 years, with 5 years focusing on vocal music. I have gotten to sing many different styles of music in many different languages. This has allowed me to grow as a musician and has helped me to develop my love of musical theater. This is one of the things that’s helped me build up my confidence.
  • Theater
    • If you asked younger me what I would be doing with my life now, I would definitely not have said theater. Yet here I am. I’ve been in the cast for 3 shows and I’ve stage managed 2 shows. This has helped me develop my leadership skills through stage managing and leading rehearsals. Also with being in multiple casts and a lead of the musical helped me overcome my stage fright
  • Lexington Deauville Sister Cities Exchange
    • This program allowed me to go to France and stay with my correspondent and his family. It taught me a lot about myself and about my ability to go to another country and be immersed in another culture. I learned about how I view the world, and I found it really cool to see that while I could stay in my comfort zone with what I know, it’s also amazing to put yourself into someone else’s shoes and see how their world differs. It has helped me grow my love for language and has driven me to want to study French in college.
