Assignment 8: Katie Chen

Fears: the ocean, death, losing loved ones
Annoyances: borrowing a pencil and not giving it back, messiness, rudeness
Accomplishments: decent grades, being a good sister (I hope)
Confusions: why the world is such a terrible place, why are some people awful
Sorrows: the world is a terrible place
Dreams: travel the world
Idiosyncrasies: unknown
Risks: traveling
Beloved possessions then and now: phone, old pictures
Problems: time management, money

I hate the ocean. It's a scary place. It's not that I'm afraid of drowning, I can swim just fine. But hearing stories of people getting caught in the undertow absolutely scare me. I think watching Jaws as a child has added to a fear of the ocean.
Not only is the ocean a scary place, I find it disgusting. It's nature's bathroom. I would rather not swim around fish waste. Safe to say, I'm not the biggest fan of the beach either. People everywhere, getting sand all over your things, and possible stepping on sharp shells? No thank you. Even this past summer in France, we frequently visited the beach, and it wasn't my favorite time. It was always overcrowded, and there were sharp, broken fragments of shells scattered everywhere (it was like walking on glass). In contrast to what it's like in the movies, I don't find the beach relaxing at all. The incessant squawking of seagulls and yelling children don't exactly scream "relaxing" to me.
