Assignment Three: Elizabeth Piper

This summer I went to the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs. It was a business and entrepreneur summer camp for three weeks. Going in to the program I was expecting something much like school. You go to class have a project to work on and you have very little freedom. When I got there I was shocked. All of the staff were very trusting and thinks were much more lenient than I had expected. You could do as you please and it was not a situation where you were forced to do anything. Of course the staff encouraged you to try your best but, whatever you decided to put in is what you got out. I had never experienced something like this before. I had so much freedom and I was independent to do what I wanted. Obviously there was some restrictions and rules put in place but nothing to the extent I was thinking. This camp gave me a real glance into what life outside of high school was like and the freedom I could potentially gain during college and beyond. I learned that when it comes to learning you can have freedom and be independent while still learning as much as possible. In fact I found that when I was responsible for learning things myself and I wasn't force-fed anything allowed me to really grasp content and retain things much better. I now look forward to the future when I will get more freedom in my education.
