Assignment Seven- Sam Clark

Filled with lush jungle, exotic cultures, and culinary masterpieces, no place struck me with its majesty as did the Orient. It seems as if it were only yesterday that my hands brushed the sides of Her Majesty’s Illustrious Jewels, the train which conveyed me across most of the east. Commanded by Sir Edward Hillendale, Her Majesty’s Illustrious Jewels resided in an era long past, with Victorian tea rooms, minimal stops, and ample servants. Though the Orient impressed me immensely, without the beautiful accommodations provided by my train, I fear its charm would’ve been lost, swallowed by that sensory overload accompanying every foreign travel. Off topic it may appear, but my description of Her Majesty’s Illustrious Jewels serves an important metaphor when discussing secondary education. My ideal college would be much like my adored train, serving as a point of view from which to survey creation. Whenever the world’s immensity overwhelms, college should provide a respite, an eye in the hurricane. College doesn’t excite me, it merely provides a convenient vehicle to retire from real, wild learning. So it is. So it evermore shall be.
